Playwright Qui Nguyen and two actors performed a dramatic reading of Qui’s play Viet Gone, a romantic comedy about the meeting of his parents in a refugee camp. The performance was followed by a lively and moving question and answer period. Held during a session of Asian American Communities, a GE Course, over 200 students attended the play. Composed during a residency at South Coast Repertory, the play will be performed in its entirety in Fall, 2015. In the words of one student (an Undecided/Undeclared freshman), “The reading was great! Overall, the play was awesome!! It’s great to read about stuff like this but it’s another thing to watch it live. The playwright was humorous yet talked about real life events. I could watch it over and over again. Can’t wait for the full play to be finished.” Faculty organizer: Linda Vo, Asian American Studies.
