Shakespeare and Art

UCI professor Julia Lupton joins Laguna Art Museum director Malcolm Warner for a public discussion, with illustrations and dramatic readings.

What kinds of images inspired Shakespeare in composing and staging his plays? And how have artists responded to the vivid tableau depicted in Shakespeare’s plays? Wall hangings, wood cuts, paintings, and posters are among the visual riches that illuminate the dramas of Shakespeare. This illustrated conversation will include dramatic readings from King Lear, Hamlet, and Twelfth Night by Bri McWhorter, who has performed with UCI’s New Swan Shakespeare Festival.

Co-sponsored by the UCI Shakespeare Center.
